Our Services
Contact Lenses
Contact lenses can open up a whole new world for you. It gives you the freedom and flexibility to lead a more active lifestyle and can enhance self-confidence. Contact lenses don’t necessarily replace spectacles and can be worn occasionally.
A comprehensive eye examination will establish if you are a suitable patient for contact lenses. Our expert team is ready to embark on this exciting journey with you. We start with a trial lens fitting and show you how to handle your lenses in the correct manner. A scheduled follow-up will confirm the type and strength of lenses best suited for you and your lifestyle.
Regular follow-up visits are essential once you start wearing contact lenses to avoid complications.
Young children are also candidates for contact lenses. Scientific research shows that children and/or teenagers can benefit more from contact lenses than from spectacles.

Low Vision
Low vision is a visual impairment that cannot be corrected by standard glasses, contact lenses, medication or surgery. It may occur as a result of birth defects, injury, a complication resulting from disease within the eye, or simply the ageing process. Low vision can include blind spots, poor night vision and blurry sight and interferes with the ability to perform functional everyday tasks such as shopping, reading, cooking or just watching TV.
Macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa are some causes of low vision. In most cases there may not be a cure, but you can be helped.
Olympia Optics offers eye testing for low vision patients and we stock a range of modern magnifying tools, electronic visual aids and hand-held magnifiers.
Children
Your child’s eyes are the window to their brand new world. Vision lets them learn, explore and discover. Good eyesight forms a large part of your child’s overall development.
An estimated one in five children have some kind of vision problem and often these problems go undetected throughout childhood. We recommend that a child’s first eye test be done at an early age, and latest by the age of five. Children who need glasses or contact lenses should be tested annually, or as recommended by their optometrist or ophthalmologist. If no vision correction is required, your child can come for a follow-up visit every two years.
Signs that a child may have vision problems include:
• Unable to see distant objects
• Trouble reading the blackboard
• Sitting too close to the TV
• Frequent squinting
• Difficulty reading/ holding books close to the face
• Recurrent headaches
• Head tilt
• Closing one eye to see better
• Poor visual tracking (following an object)
• Constant rubbing of the eyes
• Extreme light sensitivity
• Chronic tearing or redness of the eyes
• A white pupil instead of black

Eye Tests
An eye examination is the first step towards great eye health. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are critical for maintaining good vision. Visit us for regular eye examinations to ensure that you always have the clearest vision possible.
We do a comprehensive examination of each eye, as well as an assessment on how the eyes work together. The outcome from this examination establishes a visual acuity (vision potential of your eyes) and becomes vital in monitoring any aspects of your eye health in the future.
Our optometrist performs a subjective refraction to measure and record your vision (optimising your vision with optical lenses), and additionally examines the health of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. This is done to exclude any sight threatening diseases such as cataract and glaucoma.
A patient who has systemic diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure should have their eyes tested on an annual basis.
Eye examinations can reveal much more than vision problems. If you haven't had an eye exam during the last year or two, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
Your vision is in great hands.
